The Press Loves Tilt World!

Brave Flip faces the toxic Blight in his home of Shady Glen. Art by Matthew Petyo.

Since the press started hearing about Tilt World last week, we’ve read tons of great stuff.  We just wanted to make a fun game that helped replant trees in Madagascar, but it seems that Flip is making quite a splash! We’re so glad to hear that people like the game.  We’ve been working hard for months and months and now we get to take a break and write thank you notes! Here’s just a few of the press who’ve been ever so supportive and kind!  Our first thank you is to these nice folks:

“The next time someone chides you for wasting time and playing games, tell them that you are saving the world – one tree at a time,” says Edwin Kee of Ubergizmo

Sean Ludwig at Venture Beat thought Tilt World’s gameplay was “as unique as the app’s environmental goals.”

And MomItForward’s Jamie Moesser insisted “any game that helps accomplish [environmental] objectives, while keeping the fun factor, is a winner in my book.”

Thanks a lot to all the press who have been enthusiastic enough to tell the world about us, and to all the players who have committed to play, plant, and protect.  Well it’s back to making more levels for us here at XEOPlay!

If you haven’t already, you can download the game here.

Play a Game & Plant Trees: Celebrate Arbor Day with Tilt World for iOS

ImageWikimedia Commons credit Muriel Gottrop.

The points you earn in Tilt World help plant trees in Madagascar!  We’ve nearly gotten to 3 million points so keep playing and showing the game to your friends.  They can download it here.

On the first Arbor Day way back in 1872 an estimated 1 million trees were planted. Now in 2012, we’ve realized how important trees are for seeding clouds, making rain, creating ecosystmes, and reducing CO2 emissions to keep our planet healthy. Here we are 140 years later and we’re still trying to plant trees. So help us do it.  Along with WeForest, XEOPlay’s mission is to plant a million trees in Madagascar starting this arbor day!  You can help by playing Tilt World, the game where your points plant trees.

And remember our ongoing contest! The lucky person who submits the 3 millionth Tilt Point gets to go with Tilt World designer Nicole Lazzaro to Madagascar to plant our first batch of trees!

Not Just For Stir Fry! Mushrooms Help Eat Pollution and Fight Disease!

Did you know that fungi like mushrooms are made up of little networks of  fibers called mycelium that act as external lungs and stomachs?  These fibers make up little filters that are great at catching pollution and turning it into food!  That’s why in Shady Glen, Flip has been collecting Mushkas to help pull the nasty, green Blight from the soil and clean up our little corner of Madagascar!

Wanna learn more about all the things mushrooms can do?  Check it out!

Madagascar’s Baobabs Saved!

Great news for the giant Baobab trees of Madagascar.  Authorities have stopped the dumping of excess water into the Baobabs’ habitat by rice farmers.  Since this “last minute rescue operation” the roots of these great trees have stopped rotting, and the marsh where the Baobabs live has become covered with purple-pink hyacinths!

Many of the farmers have started growing peanuts which can survive in a dryer environment and some locals are now selling artisan crafts to tourists who come to see the Baobabs.  Madagascar is doing a great job of keeping its most famous trees healthy.  Help replant all the others by playing Tilt World, the game where your points plant trees!

New Global Pulse Designed to Give A Jolt of Aid to People Slipping into Poverty

Good News! The United Nations just started a project called “Global Pulse” to look at shopping trends and track searches by people who use social networks and mobile phones all over the world.  This means that if people anywhere in the world are all of a sudden losing jobs or are starting to complain that they can’t get  or can’t afford food, the whole world won’t have to wait for someone to do a yearly report on it to find out why it’s happening–that could take anywhere from three months to a year for even the most important stuff like people losing their homes!

Once Global Pulse is up and running, instead governments, businesses, and charities will know what’s going on quickly so they can start helping right away! And even better, it will be easier to figure out what caused these kinds of hardship because the sooner people find out about things, the fewer possible causes they need to investigate. Global Pulse sounds like a great step for getting relief to those who need it most and  a great way to learn how to prepare for disasters in the future.

This video explains a little more about the Global Pulse project.

Global Pulse sounds cool but what can I do?
The first step to doing something as a society is knowing what’s going on.  Stay informed. Try to read something that makes you feel like you’re learning everyday.  If you keep checking the Tilt World blog we’ll always be going on about something. And if you’re still hungry for more, here are a couple suggestions great sites where you can keep learning.
